Values Based Recruitment

Providing support, training and resources to enable organisations to attract, identify and recruit the best candidates who share the organisation’s values and mission

What is Values Based Recruitment?

An approach to recruitment that focusses on identifying and understanding the values, behaviours and motivations of candidates and how they align with the vision and values of the organisation.

The 5 A’s model of values-based recruitment supports organisations in applying a values lens to every stage of the recruitment journey from Articulating what you are looking for to Assimilating new staff into your organisation.

Values Based Recruitment enables organisations to be more inclusive and widen their recruitment pool by looking beyond previous experience and qualifications,  and identifying candidates with the potential and passion to be amazing employees through their shared commitment to the organisation’s mission and values.

What is Values Based Interviewing?

An approach to interviewing candidates which focusses on understanding candidate’s values, behaviours and what matters to them in order to assess whether they share the organisation’s values and vision.

When people share the vision and values of the organisation they work for, they are more motivated, productive, engaged and happier at work.

Kerry Cleary developed the VBA -Values Based Interviewing approach at the NSPCC over 20 years ago in response to many government inquiries into the abuse of children by professionals working with them, including taking part in the Bichard Inquiry into Ian Huntley and the tragedy in Soham.

Over the past 20 years she has developed Values Based Interviewing approaches in a wide range of different settings including children’s social care, adult social care, schools, the NHS, voluntary organisations, local authorities and private businesses.

While VBI continues to make an important contribution to safer recruitment, it also makes a significant impact in many values-based organisations with the vision and passion for making a positive difference to other’s lives.
